"The New York Crimes" is a conscious and thought provoking record; the music hitting hard and direct. From the relentless groove of the first track, "F*ck The Money", with it's direct and uncomprimising lyrical sentiment, to the defiant finale "Afraid", DJ Nemoz's record takes no prisoners and pulls no punches. The production is lean and direct, engaging and ambitious. Ominous funk bass lines side up with eerie piano tinkering. Orchestral strings swell and spare percussion tap away like for-warnings of doom and disaster. Nemoz associate mc's ARES, Warchild, Why G? and KASH dominate the lyrical side of the proceedings; each with their own distinctive style and mic technique. Standout tracks "Till I Die" and "Children Play" showcase the impressive level of talent found on this record and see Nemoz at the top of his game. Appearances by female mc Lahin (direct from Paris), singer Daja, and Mr. Truth round out the collaboration.
"The New York Crimes" is a blast of honest, real Hip Hop; an underground masterpiece ready to rise to the surface and refocus the listener away from the distraction and escape that most commercial - so called - "Hip Hop" records offer. In place of such shallowness, DJ Nemoz digs deep and brings it 360; from old school to new school, darkness to light - an uncomprimising NYC classic through and through. You heard.........
